Krusty the Clown is a fictional cartoon character on The Simpsons television show. Krusty, real name Herschel Shmoikel Pinchas Yerucham Krustofski, is the son of Rabbi Hyman Krustofski. Krusty always wanted to be a clown which was against his father’s wishes. When the Rabbi found out that Krusty was performing comedy without his knowledge, he disowned his son and didn’t speak to him for 25 years until Bart and Lisa Simpson helped them reconcile. While entertaining troops in the Gulf War, Krusty met a female soldier. To protect his comedic career, he prevented her from assassinating Sadam Hussein. She later gave birth to his daughter Sophie.
Krusty started his show business career as a street mime in his home town of Tupelo, Mississippi. In January 1989, his television show The Krusty the Clown Show debuted in Springfield. One classic interview was with Robert Frost where Krusty ended the interview by dumping snow on his guest. Krusty’s main sidekick was the evil Sideshow Bob until he was replaced by the more loyal Sideshow Mel. Krusty received millions of royalties from products and services he endorsed, but many of the products were dangerous such as jagged metal prizes in Krusty cereal boxes. He lost $44 million when his Krusty Korporation sponsored the 1984 Olympics with an illegal promotion that backfired. His restaurant Krusty Burger has been closed down numerous times for health code violations. He has also committed tax fraud, faked his death, and spent time in prison. Krusty hates children but owns and operates Kamp Krusty for kids. Krusty suffers from depression and bad habits include pornographic material, gambling, cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. Despite all this, Krusty ran and got elected to Congress as a Republican.
Even though Krusty hates children, his shows and licensed products target mostly children who make up most of his fan base. Krusty is a likeable character in spite of his bad habits and selfish acts. Many fear him since he will go to any length to get what he wants, regardless of who is hurt in the process. However, he does have a conscience and usually ends up doing the right thing. He is far from the likes of other famous clowns such as Bozo, Ronald McDonald, or Clarabelle. Although not as sinister as Pennywise in IT, the Joker in Batman, or Captain Spaulding in House of 1,000 Corpses and Devil’s Rejects, he sometimes comes close and cannot be completely trusted.
